A high-quality print deserves the right placement. With a few simple rules you can hang your pictures so they look gallery-worthy — whether a single piece or a large gallery wall.
The right height: eye level as your guide
The most important rule of thumb: the centre of the picture sits at eye level, i.e. about 145–150 cm above the floor. That's how pictures hang in most museums — and it works in almost any room. With several pictures, this centre line stays the shared reference point.
Above sofa, bed & sideboard
Above furniture, leave 15–25 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the picture. The picture (or group) should span roughly two thirds of the furniture's width for balanced proportions. A single large piece often feels calmer above a sofa than many small ones.
The perfect gallery wall
- Even spacing: 5–8 cm between frames looks modern and tidy.
- Lay it out on the floor first: arrange the layout on the floor until it works.
- Use paper templates: cut the frame sizes out of paper and tape them to the wall — this lets you find the position without unnecessary holes.
- A common thread: a shared theme (e.g. black and white, or one city) or matching frames creates calm.
